Just two miles from the centre of Regency Cheltenham, and also close to the Cotswolds – you get the best of both worlds at Charlton Kings Hotel. The hotel’s handy for Cheltenham Races, Cheltenham Festivals, business trips, shopping trips, walking holidays on the Cotswold Way – well, most things really! It’s an independent and individual hotel run by nice intelligent people where you’ll be well looked after. Husband and wife team, Stuart and Lin Doughty, want to run the kind of hotel they’d like to stay in themselves. So Charlton Kings has a certain individuality, a certain style that reflects that – after all, they live in the building too: that doesn’t mean you’ll find their slippers in reception but it does mean they’re always on hand to look after you. (Well… not always. They do have to sleep!) The food is prepared with honesty and thought. The dinner menu is modest in size but carefully chosen and cooked. Meat is sourced locally: eggs and chickens are free-range. The bar offers Cheltenham S.P.A., bottled just a mile away, and house wines from £10. The hotel is slap bang on the A40 so couldn’t be easier to find. (Bedrooms are double-glazed.) Dogs are welcome and stay free; WiFi is available at no cost.
